pH 7 Grade Range

Neutral Silica Sol Grade Comparison

Peak-tech HN grades are aqueous nanosilica dispersions listed at pH 7. Standard options cover three particle-size and concentration combinations with a published Na₂O limit of ≤0.1%.

Model Particle Size SiO₂ Content Na₂O Content Published pH Shelf Life
HN2005 7–10 nm 20±1% ≤0.1% 7 ≥12 months
HN3010 10–15 nm 30±1% ≤0.1% 7 ≥12 months
HN3020 20–30 nm 30±1% ≤0.1% 7 ≥12 months

Particle size and SiO₂ content can be reviewed for customization. Confirm the required pH test temperature, method and acceptance tolerance before sampling.

pH note: "Neutral" describes the published pH 7 direction. It does not mean the silica sol is automatically compatible with every neutral formulation. Salts, multivalent ions, polymers and mixing conditions can still destabilize the dispersion.

Grade Selection

Select the Neutral Sol by Particle Size and Solids

Fine Particle

HN2005

Provides 7–10 nm particles and 20±1% SiO₂ for lower-solids trials requiring higher relative surface area.

30% Mid-Range

HN3010

Combines 10–15 nm particles with 30±1% SiO₂ and the standard published pH value of 7.

30% Larger Particle

HN3020

Provides 20–30 nm particles with 30±1% SiO₂ for a different surface-area and packing profile.

Formulation Qualification

Confirm Neutral-System Compatibility Before Scale-Up

Select the grade using the complete formulation and process environment, not pH alone.

  • Particle size: specify the standard range or custom nominal value, distribution and test method.
  • Silica content: select 20±1%, 30±1% or provide a target customized concentration.
  • pH requirement: provide test temperature, instrument, calibration method and acceptable tolerance around the target.
  • Impurity limits: confirm sodium and any element-specific purchasing requirements.
  • Formulation components: list salts, multivalent ions, polymers, surfactants, pigments, solvents and process water.
  • Process conditions: provide addition order, dilution, shear, temperature, storage period and application test.
  • Order details: include sample quantity, annual demand, packaging and destination country.

Packaging and Storage

Maintain Neutral Sol Stability During Storage

Packaging Options

Available polyethylene packaging sizes are 25 kg, 250 kg and 1000 kg.

Storage Temperature

Store at 0–40°C and protect from freezing. Freezing can cause irreversible gelation.

Direct Sunlight

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during storage and transportation.

Container Closure

Keep containers closed to limit water evaporation, contamination and precipitation of silica particles.

FAQ

Neutral Silica Sol Purchasing Questions

Which neutral silica sol grades are available?

The standard HN grades are HN2005, HN3010 and HN3020.

What pH is published for the HN grades?

HN2005, HN3010 and HN3020 are listed at pH 7. Confirm the test method, temperature and acceptance tolerance for purchasing.

Does pH 7 guarantee compatibility with a neutral formulation?

No. Electrolytes, multivalent ions, polymers, solvents, temperature and mixing order can affect colloidal stability even when the initial pH is near neutral.

Can particle size and SiO₂ content be customized?

Yes. Custom targets can be reviewed after the particle method, tolerance, pH and application requirements are provided.

How should neutral silica sol be stored?

Store it at 0–40°C, prevent freezing and direct sunlight, and keep the container securely closed.

Applications

Applications of Neutral Silica Sol

Neutral silica sol can be evaluated where a pH 7 direction, controlled nanoscale particles and a published Na₂O limit of ≤0.1% fit the formulation. Actual compatibility must be tested.

Paper and Inkjet Coatings

Evaluate receptive-layer compatibility, coating stability, drying and surface response using the selected HN particle size.

Textile Treatments

Test compatibility with sizing polymers and auxiliaries under the actual bath composition and processing conditions.

Specialty Coatings

Assess storage stability, film formation, adhesion and surface properties in compatible near-neutral formulations.

Precision Polishing

Qualify particle size, removal behavior, surface finish and defect performance in the buyer's polishing chemistry.

Ceramic and Inorganic Materials

Evaluate bonding, drying and material compatibility where strongly acidic or alkaline silica sols are unsuitable.

Custom Functional Formulations

Build trials around the required particle size, solids content, pH tolerance, sodium limit and stability criteria.
